eBook Review: Human Body Detective Series by Dr. Heather Manley

I was contacted by Barbara Hightower, owner of Babs Book Bistro and Author Services at the Bistro, to review two children's books by Dr. Heather Manley with my daughter, Katie.
The first book is called The Lucky Escape.

"Merrin and Pearl's little brother Robbie has swallowed a penny! Through magic and imagination they find themselves on an adventure through his digestive system where they must grab the penny, save Robbie and narrowly escape his poopy diaper. Through their journey down the esophagus, into the stomach, and through the intestines, the girls experience some close calls - almost being squirted with hydrochloric acid and being bumped by gas bubble s. Their encounters force them to learn first hand all about the digestive system and why it is so important to eat healthy foods."
 Ideal for ages 6 to 12.

My Review:
The Lucky Escape is a fun way to get children to want to learn about the human body and the things it can do. The story was well written and the illustrations were great! Besides the story, the book also includes a search and find list, more facts about the story's topic, a "human map" of body parts involved, jokes, healthy eating tips and a glossary. All of these things make the book even better and help with the learning. After reading this book with my daughter, I couldn't wait to read the next book!

Katie's Review:
She absolutely loved this book. It made her interested with things that happen inside the human body.

The second book is called Battle with the Bugs.

"Merrin and Pearl's little cousin Max is sick, threatening everyone's Mexican holiday. This time the girls find themselves in Max's body, witnessing firsthand the immune system in action. They befriend a white blood cell warrior who leads them into battle against the offending bacteria, and listeners learn why it's important not to eat candy and sugar when you have an illness - it can fuel bacteria and viruses and make you feel sicker."
Ideal for ages 6 to 12.

My Review:
 Same as the first book, very educational in a fun way. The story made mucus cool! I think Dr. Heather has a best selling series going for her because she explains the medical parts of the story in an easy way for children to understand and making children want to learn more about the human body.

Katie's Review:
 After The Lucky Escape, I told her that there was a second book and she got so excited! "There's more?!" She couldn't wait to hear the next adventure about the body. This book didn't disappoint.

Be on the lookout for a third adventure in the series called A Heart Pumping Adventure. The story is about the circulatory system. "During breakfast with her dad, Merrin is concerned about his eating habits and his heart. A few moments later, she and Pearl are riding on a red, pillowy, donut–shaped boat, floating on a red–colored sea and surrounded by hundreds of these grape–like things! Where are the girls and where are they headed?" (*Info taken from the website)

Hey Cavey is celebrating the Olympics in London 2012!
